Champ Ferguson's Grave
Located in the Calfkiller Valley, France Cemetery is home to the grave site of Confederate Guerrilla Champ Ferguson. Capt. Ferguson was one of two confederate soldiers executed for war crimes in the aftermath of the Civil War. The other soldier was the commandant of the Andersonville prison camp.
Here in the cemetery, Champ is buried alongside a few of his compatriots' graves. Champ Ferguson's military career and execution is the subject of much contraversy and if you hold an interest in the history of this era, then this graveyard, coupled with the serene setting, makes an ironically peaceful stop on your trip.
